New Glass (Edit)

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 13, 2008, 12:48 PM
 Greetings Watchers,

:w00t: :excited:

At last, I have finally made up my mind and after months of research, pages and pages of reviews, help and advice from the friendly folk here on dA, I have acquired the:

:spotlight-left: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM :spotlight-right:

See [link]

I definitely needed the longer focal length, and apparently this baby is sharper than the 400mm prime! Certainly is sharper than the 70-200mm + 2x Extender. :)

Edit: See my gallery for the most recent photos from the new lens. All comments, suggestions and advice gratefully recieved. :)

:) Thanks mate. I will, hoping the IS will help, but bought a monopod as well. Should do the trick, my old tripod is shakier than I am the morning after a big night ;) hehe.
:iconwilderbeest:
Thanks mate. It's been a while since I treated myself to some good quality camera stuff.
:iconcarjo:
Where did you get it from? Photo Continental?

If I get rid of the 75-300 after I upgrade I'm just going to give it to someone for a very (and I mean, very) small fee. I'd hate to see someone make the same mistake that I made when I was a n00b, and pay $200+ for one. They're just not worth it. =P

Another thing I could do is chop it in half...

Yeah. PhotoContinental. They were great, as always.

Uploaded a couple of bird shots to shot the sharpness at 400mm. Let me know what you think.

I may have a ritual burning of my 75-300 on the barbie this weekend ;) hehe
:iconcarjo:
Tell you what... cut one of them @ 75mm, and the other @ 300mm and then compare.

I was going to say to get through an internet dealer. Cameras Direct set up a store at BCG digital meeting sometimes, so it's not like some other stores that are completely web-only. But, what you lose in price you gain in service and assurance should something go wrong. I've heard stories where if you take a malfuntioning item back to PC with their receipt they'll replace it there and then. :)

I'll let you in on a little secret. I had already checked the online prices, and PC matched the Cameras Direct price. :) I was not expecting that at all.
