Less is almost always more


I have always been intrigued with minimalism in both traditional art and photography. With the clutter and noise of everyday life surrounding us, these wonderful and immersive images are a calming tonic for the soul.

My name is Ricky Barron and I live in Redland Bay, nr Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. A location that drives a lot of my inspiration. I am in my 40's and have two lovely children and a wife, Sally, who is my most admired critic and supporter.

I have been interested in photography, ever since my father gave me his old Zenith SLR when I was 12 years old, and have been hooked ever since.

I made the move to digital photography with a Sony CyberShot DSC-F505, which I used alongside my Canon EOS 600 SLR. The Sony was different to other digital cameras of the time, mainly because it had a Carl Zeiss lens attached to the body. Gave me more creative freedom with aperture and speed priorities.

I bit the bullet and moved to a digital SLR in 2005. My primary kit now contains:

• Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM
• Manfrotto 190XPROB Tripod + 804RC2 Head

• Guardsman GS202 Tripod (flimsy for Flash)
• Cokin P + ND2 Grad and ND4 filters
• Hoya Circular Polarizer filter
